We fabricate metal enclosures, boxes and cabinets for generators, built for a specific model of equipment. A protective enclosure solves four problems at once: it shields the generator from rain and snow, reduces noise for you and your neighbours, protects against theft and lets you safely run the unit outdoors all year round. We design every product around your generator's dimensions and installation conditions — there is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all solution here.

Why a generator needs a protective enclosure

A generator standing in the open fails sooner than one running in a properly built box. The reasons are prosaic:

  • Moisture and corrosion. Rain, snow and condensation destroy a generator from the inside: contacts oxidise, the frame rusts, water gets into the air filter and the alternator section.
  • Noise. A household unit produces 65–95 dB — the level of a loud conversation at close range or a jackhammer nearby. A proper enclosure removes a large share of that noise and defuses conflicts with neighbours.
  • Theft. A generator in a yard or next to an apartment entrance is easy prey. A vandal-proof box bolted to the base and fitted with a lock makes theft far too slow and noisy a job.
  • Winter. In freezing weather the engine starts harder and the oil thickens. An insulated housing keeps the unit's own heat in and makes starting easier.

Canopy, enclosure, box or container — what is the difference

These words are often used interchangeably, although the designs differ fundamentally. Here is how we distinguish them when matching a solution to the task:

  • Canopy — the simplest option: a roof on posts, sometimes with one or two walls. Protects against precipitation, but not against noise or theft. The cheapest choice, suitable when the generator stands on closed premises.
  • Enclosure — a removable housing that fits snugly over the unit. Protects against precipitation and partly against noise, and lifts off easily for servicing. The compromise and the most popular option.
  • Box or cabinet — a stationary structure with a door and a lock, usually anchored to the base. This is full-scale protection: precipitation, noise, unauthorised access.
  • Container or shed — a large walk-in structure. We build these for powerful units from 15 kW, for commercial sites and wherever fuel is stored nearby.

Which generators we build for

The type of unit affects the design more than it may seem — different generators have different requirements for air supply, heat removal and service access.

  • Petrol household units, 2–7 kW. The most frequent order. Compact, but they need frequent refuelling — so we provide wide access to the filler neck and a convenient door rather than a solid lift-off cap.
  • Diesel units, 8–30 kW. Louder and hotter, they demand more serious ventilation and mandatory routing of the exhaust outside. For this category we more often build stationary boxes and containers.
  • Inverter units. They already have their own sound-attenuating housing, so what they need from us above all is protection from weather and theft — without redundant soundproofing, so you do not pay for what you do not need.
  • Gas and dual-fuel units. The key requirement is ventilation that accounts for a possible gas leak, so we place the intake openings in the lower zone and the extract openings at the top.

We also make dedicated designs for units on trolleys and trailers, where the housing has to accommodate the wheels and the handle.

Soundproofing: how to make a generator quieter

This is the most frequent question and, at the same time, the easiest place to ruin the design. You cannot simply line a box with foam rubber: the material is flammable, quickly soaks up fuel and crumbles within a few months. We use a different approach.

A working soundproof enclosure consists of three layers. On the outside — a steel sheet that reflects sound. Inside — non-combustible mineral or basalt wool that absorbs the sound energy. Then — a perforated sheet that holds the insulation in place and keeps it from breaking down under vibration and airflow.

The second important element is the labyrinth channels at the air inlet and outlet. Sound travels in straight lines, so an air duct with two or three bends lets air through while muffling much of the noise that would otherwise escape through the ventilation openings. Together with anti-vibration mounts under the unit's frame, this gives a tangible reduction in loudness — the generator goes from loud to background.

We warn you honestly: it is impossible to make a generator absolutely silent — the engine needs air, and air openings always let some sound through. The goal of a well-designed enclosure is to remove the harshness and lower the level so the unit stops being a nuisance.

Ventilation: where DIY boxes fail most often

The most common and most expensive mistake is building an airtight box. A generator is an internal combustion engine: it consumes air for combustion, expels hot exhaust gases and sheds heat through its radiator. In a sealed box the unit overheats within minutes, stalls, and in the worst case fails for good.

That is why every one of our designs includes:

  • Intake openings with an area no smaller than the air intake area of the unit itself — otherwise the engine "suffocates" and loses power.
  • Extract openings in the upper part: hot air rises and needs a way out, otherwise heat builds up under the roof.
  • Exhaust routing to the outside through a separate pipe with thermal insulation — exhaust gases must not stay inside, both for temperature reasons and for safety reasons.
  • Louvres and rain hoods over the openings: they let air through but keep rain and snow out.

Ventilation is exactly why we always ask for the precise generator model: the position of the radiator, exhaust and air intake differs between units, and the openings have to face them, not sit "somewhere on the side".

Theft protection

For a generator standing in the yard of a private house, next to a shop or in the shared courtyard of an apartment block, vandal resistance often matters more than noise. In such cases we build a reinforced version: a fully welded body with no removable panels, concealed hinges that cannot be cut off from the outside, a guard plate that protects the lock from bolt cutters, and lugs for anchoring to a concrete base. The lock can be a padlock or a mortise lock — your choice; if needed, we provide two independent locks.

Winter operation

For year-round use we add wall insulation — the same non-combustible mineral material that works both as soundproofing and as thermal insulation. In freezing weather the housing retains the heat the engine itself gives off, so the unit starts more easily and runs more stably. If required, we provide space for a thermostatic heater and a sealed gland for the power cable.

Materials and coating

As standard we make the body from steel sheet with powder coating — this finish withstands outdoor use, UV and temperature swings far better than ordinary enamel, does not peel and needs no seasonal touch-ups. We match the colour from the RAL catalogue: to your facade, your fence, or a neutral grey.

For aggressive environments — near the sea, at production sites with chemicals — we offer galvanised or stainless steel. The frame is made of profile tube: it holds the geometry and keeps the walls from "drumming" under vibration.

What a standard product includes

So you understand what you are paying for, here is the base configuration every enclosure leaves our workshop with:

  • a profile-tube frame clad with steel sheet;
  • a door or removable panel for access to the unit, with a handle and a latch;
  • ventilation openings with louvres or rain hoods;
  • an exhaust outlet pipe with a heat-insulating sleeve;
  • a sealed gland for the power cable;
  • powder coating in the RAL colour of your choice;
  • holes for anchoring to the base.

Optional extras: a soundproofing package, winter insulation, a second lock, anti-vibration mounts under the unit's frame, a removable drip tray for technical fluids, space for a battery or an auto-start module.

Dimensions and sizing for your unit

We do not keep a stock of standard boxes, because generators vary too much: petrol household units of 2–5 kW, diesel units of 10–20 kW, models with enlarged fuel tanks, frame-mounted and wheeled versions. Every enclosure is built to specific dimensions with service clearances around the unit — they are needed both for cooling and so that you can reach the filler neck, the dipstick and the control panel without dismantling the structure.

Little is required from you: the generator model or three overall dimensions, a photo of the unit and a description of the place where it will stand. We will work out the rest ourselves.

Where and how to install it

An enclosure does not settle every siting question — a few rules are worth considering before you order, and we always point them out.

Place the structure on a level, solid base: a concrete pad, paving or a prepared bed. On subsiding ground the body skews over time and the door stops closing. Keep a distance from walls and combustible materials — the exhaust and the body of a running unit are hot. Point the exhaust away from windows, doors and the building's ventilation openings: carbon monoxide must not get indoors under any circumstances.

For a stationary installation, plan the cable route in advance — we will place the gland exactly where the body needs it, not "wherever it fits". If the generator will stand under a roof slope, tell us: we will add a reinforced roof or a hood rated for snow load.

Maintaining the structure

The powder coating needs no annual repainting, but the structure itself lives longer if you give it ten minutes once a season. Check that the ventilation openings are not clogged with leaves, dust or poplar fluff — this is the most common cause of overheating after a year or two of use. Grease the hinges and the lock, inspect the weld seams and the anchor points on the base.

If the coating is mechanically damaged anywhere (knocked or scratched in transit), touch the spot up — that keeps corrosion from spreading. If needed, we restore the coating on our own products.

The mistakes that cost the most

Over the years of building these structures we have seen how hasty decisions end. The three most common:

  • Ordering "by eye", without the generator model. An enclosure built to approximate dimensions either blocks access to the filler neck and the dipstick, or has its openings away from the radiator — and the unit runs hot.
  • Skimping on ventilation. The most expensive saving there is: repairing an overheated unit often costs more than the enclosure itself, and sometimes the unit simply cannot be restored.
  • Installing a solid airtight box "to make it quieter". The silence lasts exactly until the first overheat. The right path to quiet is not airtightness but multi-layer insulation with labyrinth channels.

Build it yourself or order it

Many people first look up how to weld a generator box with their own hands — and that is fine if you have a welding machine, an angle grinder and a free weekend. But it is worth honestly assessing the three things DIY builds stumble over most often.

First — ventilation. A mistake in sizing the openings costs more than the whole enclosure: an overheated unit often cannot be repaired. Second — soundproofing. Foam rubber and construction foam do not work and are dangerous next to a hot exhaust; you need non-combustible materials and the right layered scheme. Third — corrosion. A box welded and painted with a brush starts rusting from its very first winter, right along the seams and edges.

The cost depends on: the unit's dimensions, the type of structure (canopy, enclosure, box or container), the presence of soundproofing and thermal insulation, the metal thickness, the number of doors and locks, the complexity of the ventilation assemblies, and the colour and type of coating.

How we manufacture

The full cycle takes place at a single production site, with nothing handed to subcontractors: laser cutting of the body parts and ventilation openings, bending of the panels, welding of the frame, metalwork finishing and hardware installation, powder coating. That is why lead times are shorter and a single company answers for the quality.

You collect the finished product in Kyiv, or we ship it by carrier anywhere in Ukraine.

A cover protects only against dust and precipitation during storage, and it has to be removed before starting the unit. A metal enclosure lets you run the unit permanently: it has ventilation, exhaust routing and a lock, and it is not afraid of heat.

In most cases yes, but a simpler one: inverter units already have their own sound-attenuating housing, so what our structure has to provide is protection from weather and theft. A soundproofing package is usually redundant in this case — we do not offer it without need.
