Plasma Metal Cutting: Thick Plate Cutting

We accept orders for plasma metal cutting — cutting sheet steel of medium and heavy thicknesses to your drawings. Plasma cutting is carried out in cooperation with trusted partner facilities, while all further processing — deburring, bending, welding, milling and painting — is done in our own shop in Kyiv. For you that means one order and one responsible contractor.

When plasma makes more sense than laser

Plasma and laser cutting do not compete — each has its own niche. Plasma is the choice when:

  • the metal is thick — carbon steel from 20–25 mm up to 100 mm, where laser no longer cuts or cuts at an unjustifiable cost;
  • the part is large and simple — flanges, gussets, frames, embedded parts, where the price per metre of cut matters, not tenths of a millimetre;
  • a batch of heavy blanks for welding — the edges will go through weld prep anyway.

If the thickness is up to 20 mm and edge quality or contour accuracy matters, laser cutting will be the better option: the kerf is narrower and the part needs no rework. Materials and thicknesses

  • Carbon steel — the main material for plasma, thicknesses from 6 to 100 mm.
  • Stainless steel — up to 50 mm, the edge needs deburring after cutting.
  • Aluminium — up to 40 mm; for thinner sheets we recommend laser.

Plasma cutting accuracy is roughly ±0.5–1 mm depending on thickness; the edge has a slight bevel. For parts that need precise dimensions or threaded holes after cutting, we add a machining allowance and finish them by milling or turning in our shop.

How much plasma cutting costs

The cost is calculated from the cut length, metal thickness and number of piercings, plus the cost of the metal itself if we supply it. At thicknesses above 25 mm plasma is noticeably cheaper than laser — that is exactly why we offer it for heavy parts. Send your drawings in DXF, DWG or PDF with the thickness and quantity — we will quote within one business day and tell you right away if some parts are cheaper to cut with laser.

Cutting is only the first operation

Most often plasma cutting is ordered not for the blanks themselves but as the start of a product: frames, machine bases, steel structures, embedded parts. We run the order through the full cycle: cutting, edge deburring, welding, drilling and metalwork, powder coating or priming. You get a finished product from a single source — no logistics between several contractors.
